James Dahl
Master
James Dahl was appointed 15th Master of Wellington College in September 2019. Prior to that he was Second Master Elect as well as Deputy Head Pastoral, having served previously as Director of Admissions & Marketing at the College since 2013.
Having grown up in the North-East, James was educated at The Royal Grammar School, Newcastle before moving to board at Haileybury for his Sixth Form. He went on to read Classics at Jesus College, Cambridge before starting his teaching career under Anthony Seldon at Brighton College. He became Head of Classics at the age of 23 and then Head of Sixth Form. James left Brighton in 2006 to become a Housemaster for seven very happy years at Repton, before moving to Berkshire with his wife Kat, also a teacher, and his daughter.
James is a Grade 8 flautist, pianist and percussionist, and represented Cambridge University at second team level in both cricket and rugby. Unsurprisingly, he is therefore passionate about holistic models of education, as well as the transformative power of coeducation and boarding. At Wellington, he has already driven through a strategic plan to reach a 50/50 pupil gender balance by September 2025 and has broadened the College’s social purpose through the introduction of an educational grant giving function as well as growing the Prince Albert Foundation, a transformational bursary scheme for children from backgrounds of limited means and disadvantage.
James serves as a Governor at three prep schools, is a trustee at AQA, the UK’s largest examination board, and also serves as a trustee for the Old Wellingtonian Charitable Trust as well as the Haileybury Society. He retains a keen interest in the Arts and enjoys classical music, opera and spending time with his family in his spare time.
Cressida Henderson
Second Master
Cressida Henderson joined Wellington College in September 1993 as a teacher of French and Spanish, having graduated and completed her PGCE at Oxford University (Keble College). A double Blue from Oxford, she has coached sport to both boys and girls and was fully involved in boarding school life having supported her husband who was Housemaster in two Houses consecutively. She has fulfilled a number of roles at Wellington including Head of French, Head of Modern Languages, Head of Middle School, Vice Principal to The Wellington Academy and Deputy Head (Co-curricular), prior to becoming Second Master in September 2019. She was a governor at Eagle House from November 2015 to December 2022, with particular responsibility for the Pre-Prep. She is passionate about coaching and frequently uses this dialogic approach to personal development. A keen supporter of the Arts, she has always relished opportunities to celebrate the artistic pursuits of all pupils.
Stephen Crouch
Chief Operating Officer
Stephen is the Chief Operating Officer for Wellington College. Following an early career with PwC and Ernst & Young, working in Restructuring and Corporate Finance, Stephen had roles as Finance Director and then Managing Partner in a global consultancy in the transport sector. Stephen joined Wellington College in 2010 and is responsible for the finance and operational matters of the College and of the charity’s commercial subsidiaries and operations, including Wellington College Educational Enterprises Ltd and Wellington College Services Ltd.
Stephen has a First-Class degree in German and Philosophy from St John’s College Oxford.
Delyth Lynch
Director of Safeguarding
Delyth joined Wellington College in 2007 as the first Housemistress of the Combermere after working as Director of Extra Curricular and Housemistress at Bromsgrove School. She joined the senior leadership team in 2010 as Deputy Head (Pastoral) and moved sideways to focus on the strategy and implementation of safeguarding in 2017 and is now responsible for the overarching safeguarding strategy across both Eagle House and Wellington College. Delyth has a First-Class degree in Human Biology from Loughborough University, where she also completed her PGCE. Delyth holds a wealth of experience in educational leadership and boarding and her experience is regularly called upon in the national safeguarding area. She chairs the local independent schools group of safeguarding leads, is on the Executive Committee of the Institute of Boarding and is also Vice Chair of Governors at Holme Grange School, Wokingham. She is married to Martin, a Group Financial Controller, has a 6-year-old daughter (Cara) and a lively rabbit called Truffles. Delyth also loves swimming (especially open water), running and reading.
Ed Venables
Head of Wellington College Prep
Ed was a pupil at Wellington College a long time ago! After four years studying Classics at university, Ed worked in the City for twelve years in various equity and credit research roles before moving to a private equity hedge fund. Then, around the time of the financial crisis, he decided to move his family to Crowthorne and started a completely new career as an Economics and Business teacher at Wellington College. In his career at Wellington Ed has been a head of department, a housemaster (of his old boarding house), director of admissions and now Head of Wellington College Prep. Ed is also a Governor of Wellington College International Tianjin.
Ed is married to Kate and they have three sons and a cockerpoo! Holidays are spent at their house on Anglesey in North Wales where Ed pursues his passions of walking, running, cycling and sailing!
Naima Charlier
Director of EDI & Social Responsibility
Naima Charlier joined Wellington College in 2022 to lead the vital new role of Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Responsibility. She has 25 years of varied teaching experience, most recently including IGCSE Global Perspectives which teaches pupils to think critically about complex global issues deepening empathy and understanding of others, something she is passionate about. Naima has been an educational leader for nearly 20 years, her roles include Deputy Principal of the British School of Bucharest, and Director of Teaching and Learning of NAISHK as well as two founding Headships. Based in Hong Kong for the last 8 years, her role also included EDI lead for China Region alongside a seat on a global EDI steering group for Nord Anglia Education.
Although originally from England, she has lived overseas for the last 22 years, which alongside her own dual heritage background has supported her appreciation for intercultural understanding and love of meeting new people. She holds a BEd in English and an MBA in International Educational Leadership from UCL. She is a Lead Improvement Partner for the Council of British International Schools and a frequent speaker at conferences where she shares her passion for curriculum, Edtech, and EDI. She loves working with young people and will tutor in the Talbot. Naima is married to Laurent, a French insurance broker, and is kept busy by her two children, dog and cat, and is happily exploring the beauty of the English countryside.
Phil Mann

Phil first joined Wellington to teach PE and Sports Science in 2008, before leaving in 2010 to become Director of Sport at Reigate Grammar School. Returning to Wellington in 2018 with his wife Bex and young family, Phil has been an exceptional Housemaster of the Hill, coached First XI cricket and has led the US Universities programme across the College.
Benjamin Evans
Deputy Head (Academic)
Benjamin joined Wellington College in January 2022 as Deputy Head (Academic). Born in London, he attended St Paul’s School in Barnes and then Bedford School, where his father was Headmaster. He studied at Durham and Cambridge universities and has since become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Benjamin has always been a teacher, teaching at Oundle School on two separate occasions and additionally at Haberdashers Aske’s Boys’ School, Shrewsbury School, and Prince Alfred College in Adelaide. He has recently taken up his third academic deputy headship and is very happy being ‘bridesmaid’ to James. Married to Victoria, they have a cat called Fonzie. Interests include music (he plays the oboe and piano), modern American literature, American football, the wines of Burgundy, Sherlock Holmes, and dinosaurs.
Benjamin is also a Governor of Wellington College International Shanghai.
Nick Creed
Deputy Head (Co-curricular)
Nick joined Wellington in September 2023. Prior to this, he was part of the Senior Management Team as Deputy Head Co-Curricular at Hurstpierpoint College in Sussex. During his time at Hurst, he also held roles as Housemaster, Assistant Director of Sport, teacher of PE and Business and Head of Cricket. His teaching career began at The Scots College in Sydney, and he went to university in Cardiff. He completed his teacher training at Sussex University and, more recently, has completed an MEd in Educational Leadership. He is a governor of a prep school in West Sussex and, before entering the teaching profession, he worked for a sport sponsorship agency as well as a commercial property firm. Nick has represented Sussex CCC at cricket and played county age group hockey and rugby. He is a keen trail runner, average golfer and enjoys DJing. Nick is married to Bryony, a nursery school owner, and they have two young daughters.
Tom Wayman
Deputy Head (Pastoral & Wellbeing)
Tom Wayman has been at Wellington since 2011. In this time, he has been Head of English, Housemaster of the Orange, Senior HM, Assistant Head (Pupils), and since October 2023 Deputy Head (Pastoral & Wellbeing). Prior to arriving in Crowthorne, Tom was Head of English at KCS Wimbledon. A graduate of Newcastle and Oxford universities, Tom enjoys crosswords, cooking without planning, the Thames Estuary and the Loire Valley. He is married to Jo and has two increasingly grown-up children who have both attended the school.
Murray Lindo

Murray began his career in banking but found the pull of the family trade of teaching too strong and headed to Bristol University to complete his PGCE in History. Early into his teaching career he was seconded to Macmillan Cancer Support, which set him on a different path. Since then, he has spent the past 25 years working in the non-profit sector working on strategy, brand, development, political lobbying and communications. Murray has held senior roles at Macmillan, Samaritans and Breast Cancer Care where he spent 7 years as Director of Fundraising and Communications. Murray is also a trained actor and has a MSc in Business Psychology.
For the last 8 years Murray has been Head of the Wellington College Community and Director of Development. Along with raising funds for the Prince Albert Scholarship programme and a number of capital projects, Murray and his team run www.wellingtonconnectglobal.com our professional careers networking platform for parents, staff, students and alumni across our global family of schools.
Iain Henderson
Director of The Bridge
Iain is Director of The Bridge at Wellington College, and Co-Director of the Festival of Education both in the UK and around the world. He joined Wellington in 1993 after 3 years in the state sector and has been a Biology teacher; a Head of Year; a Boarding Housemaster for 13 years, and Assistant Head. He has most recently been Deputy Head (Educational Developments and Partnerships). He was a double blue at Oxford in cricket and golf. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire, and won the President’s Putter twice. He set up the golf programme at Wellington and built an enviable reputation as the leading school in the UK. He has worked with all of the schools in the Wellington Family to embed the essential Wellington DNA, ethos or culture, sensitively in each new context. He is a CTI-trained coach and has introduced and grown a coaching culture at Wellington, as well as training over 500 teachers there and at other schools to become coaches. He is a governor of Wellington College International School Bangkok, and has recently been both a Trustee of the Corvus Multi-Academy Trust, and a Member of Ascend MAT.

William is a graduate of Oxford University and is the Founder of Bridgepoint. Bridgepoint is one of the world’s leading private market investors providing capital for growth companies across Europe, the US and Asia. He is also currently a Non-Executive Director of both the Berkeley Group plc, the FTSE 100 property company, and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest comprehensive cancer centre. Two of William’s daughters were at Wellington in the Anglesey.

The Duke was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. He has worked for a number of non-profit or charitable organisations. He was Chairman of the Patrons of British Art at the Tate Gallery (1987–90), a member of the Council of the Royal College of Art (1992–97), Chairman of the British-Spanish Tertulias (1993–98) and Trustee of the Phoenix Trust (1996 to 2001). He was appointed OBE in 1999 for services to British-Spanish relations. He has been a Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire since 1999. He served as a Commissioner of English Heritage from 2003 to 2007. He was Chairman of the Governing Council of King’s College London from 2007 to 2016. Since 2015 the Duke has been a Member of the House of Lords. He is High Steward of Winchester Cathedral.

Liz is an ordained Church of England priest, Chaplain to his Majesty the King and former Archdeacon of Hackney.
Liz spent several years as Chaplain and then Acting Dean of St John’s College Cambridge. She is currently a Non-Executive Director of Berkeley Group Plc and a Non-Executive Director of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Liz is a member of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Op. Talla Independent Ethics Committee (IEC). Liz is a Westminster Abbey Institute Fellow, an Associate at Ridley Hall Theological College and an Honorary Fellow of St Augustine’s College of Theological.

Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE, DL is the founder of Cobra Beer and Chairman of Molson Coors Cobra India. In June 2020, he was appointed President of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
Karan graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad and moved to London. He then graduated in law from the University of Cambridge as a student of Sidney Sussex College. During his time at Cambridge, Karan was a member of the university’s polo team and was awarded a Half-Blue.
Karan founded Cobra Beer in 1989 with the idea to produce a beer suitable for drinking with Indian curry.
In 2004 Karan was appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business and entrepreneurship, and in 2006 he was appointed an Independent Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords and created Baron Bilimoria of Chelsea in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
In Parliament, Karan is active in a wide range of matters including commerce, entrepreneurship, diplomacy, defence, the European Union, the Armed Forces, education, culture, minorities’ contributions, and academia.

Ron joined the Governing Body in 2011. Ron began his career in the field of motorsport more than 50 years ago, and was the Founding Shareholder, Chairman and CEO of the McLaren Technology Group for over 36 years. He was a pioneering force in the sport, which saw him reinvent McLaren into a dominant competitor in Formula One, as well as a successful commercial automaker and diversified technology group, thus creating one of the most powerful and successful teams in modern sport. His personal achievement as the most successful team leader in the history of Formula One racing remains unparalleled.
Ron has always been passionate about developing the next generation; whether it be fostering the skills of legendary driving talents such as Ayrton Senna or Lewis Hamilton and pushing engineers to challenge technological boundaries during his time in motorsport. Since selling his shareholding in the McLaren Technology Group in 2017, Ron’s focus on the next generation has seen him take on mentorship roles in helping young people towards achieving their aspirations, as well as his involvement with various government directives and programmes in several capacities, sharing his expertise and working for the good of the future and future generations.
Ron continues to pursue new business opportunities and endeavours to make a societal and personal impact through his Foundation.

Kate is a graduate of Durham University and is Chief Financial Officer of Burberry Plc. She is a highly experienced CFO having held roles in both public and private companies including Dixons Carphone Plc, TalkTalk Plc and McLaren Group. In addition to her financial acumen, Kate has extensive experience driving business transformation and strategic development and a deep understanding of public markets. She has particular expertise in the retail sector, as well as an excellent understanding of the luxury industry. In her early career, Kate was involved in numerous IPOs including that of Burberry in 2002. Kate is a Chartered Accountant and also sits on the Board of Greggs Plc and the British Olympic Foundation, where she is Audit Chair of both organisations.
Kate is passionate about supporting the youth of today and inspiring the next generation to reach their full potential. Kate’s daughter and middle son are current students at Wellington College.

James joined the Governing Body in 2021. He was educated at Blackrock College in Dublin and graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1984 with degrees in Engineering and Mathematics. He also completed a Masters in Military History in 2019 at the University of Buckingham.
James worked for over 30 years in investment banking with management roles at Citibank, Union Bank of Switzerland, Goldman Sachs and Lloyds Banking Group. He has acted on Risk, Compliance and Regulatory committees. Since leaving executive life, he has taken board roles at Standard & Poors Global Ratings, the National Theatre and Trinity College Dublin, where he sits on the Endowment Investment Committee. He is also the founder and director of Martello Financial Services which supplies expert witnesses to the legal community and their clients to help resolve disputes in financial services.
James’s daughter and two sons attended Wellington. James chairs the Business & Finance Committee.

Emma Goldsmith graduated from Manchester University in English Language and Literature and began her teaching career at Oakham School followed by Rugby School and Bloxham School, before becoming Head of Winchester House Prep School in 2014, and then Dragon School, Oxford in 2021. Emma has held governor roles at Bedford College and Cheltenham College and is currently a governor at Gordonstoun. She has been an ISI Inspector of Boarding and is currently on the Board of Directors of IAPS.

Emma’s early career in HR sparked an interest in the psychology of wellbeing and the role leaders, teachers and parents play in promoting thriving and emotional resilience for those around them. She has a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and her PhD focused on wellbeing. Since setting up her own consultancy 15 years ago and co-founding a charity in the field, she has worked with a wide range of multi-national, public sector and educational organisations bringing this knowledge to life supporting leaders, educators and parents.
Emma’s experience focuses on sharing the practical skills of emotional resilience and wellbeing, She has trained thousands of educators, leaders and parents and developed programmes to support schools and organisations who recognise the importance of wellbeing, emotional resilience and thriving – often working alongside academic partners to evaluate what makes a difference. Emma is also a Governor of Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and a Trustee of Family Links – a charity promoting emotional health within families.

Felicity joined the Governing Body in 2015. Educated at Lawnside School, Gt Malvern and Exeter University (English and French Law) and qualifying as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and avocat au Barreau de Paris, Felicity then spent five years working for Clifford Chance in Paris and Tokyo before returning to London to set up their social responsibility programme and becoming a Director of The Corporate Responsibility Group. She joined US law firm White & Case in 2000 as Director of Pro Bono and in 2013 became Executive Director of Lawyers Without Borders UK. She is currently International Pro Bono Director at Ropes & Gray. Her three children attended Eagle House with two boys going on to Wellington.
Felicity chairs the Pastoral & Safeguarding Committee and is a member of the International Board and Wellington College Prep Committee.

Christie first joined the Governing Body in 2002 and served until 2010 when she stood down due to temporarily re-locating to California. She re-joined in 2021 to Chair the Education Committee. She is an Old Wellingtonian and was Head Girl and a member of the Upper Sixth.
Following her undergraduate degree in Maths at Oxford, Christie did a PGCE and then taught maths first at Southfields Community College and then at Tiffin Girls School. She then returned to Oxford to study first an MSc and then a DPhil in Theoretical Computer Science. Following Post-Doctoral Research positions in Oxford and Warwick she moved to St Andrews where she founded the university’s Mathematics Support Centre. She is now Deputy Director of The Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge.
Christie’s passion for education continues and she recently completed the Executive MBA at the Judge Business School, Cambridge, doing her studies alongside her day job.

Jill joined the Governing Body in 2018. She attended Benenden School and graduated from Durham University with a BA degree in Economics (2:1), where she also won the Adam Smith Economics Prize.
After university, Jill joined S. G. Warburg & Co Ltd in Corporate Finance where she stayed until 1995. After a career break to look after her young children, she joined UBS AG as a Managing Director in 2001 as Client Adviser to the CEO of UBS Investment Bank and thereafter spent ten years in Group Strategy. Since leaving UBS in 2012, Jill has held a number of non-executive positions including being a Member of the Council of the National Trust, a Member of the Council at Durham University, a Non-Executive Director at the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales), a Non Executive Director of the Competition and Markets Authority and Board roles at listed investment and property companies including Ruffer Investment Company. She was appointed by H. M. Treasury as an External Member of the Prudential Regulation Committee of the Bank of England in 2018 and has been reappointed for a second term.
Jill is married and has six children. Her interests include finance and financial regulation, economics, public policy, consumer protection and competition regulation, long distance running, skiing, wildlife conservation and research into cancer.
Jill’s business, strategy and regulatory experience is a strength on the Governing Body both with its UK interests in independent and state schools and internationally. She chairs the Investment Committee and is a member of the Business & Finance and Nominations Committees and the International Board.

Emma joined the Governing Body in 2020. She attended Bedford High School and graduated from Liverpool University with a BA (Hons) in German and Dutch. She then gained her PGCE at Birmingham University.
Emma started her teaching career in 1986 at the Royal High School where she was a teacher of German. She was promoted to the roles of Housemistress, Head of Sixth Form and Deputy Head and finally to Head from 1994 to 1997.
In 1997 Emma became the Head at Downe House, a leading senior girls’ boarding school, and has remained in post until the present. During this time, Emma has been a Governor of eleven different prep schools and two senior public schools; she has also served on the Board of ISEB (Independent Schools Education Board) and more recently joined the Royal Merchant Navy Education Foundation and Emmott Foundation Boards.
Emma is a member of the Education and Pastoral & Safeguarding Committees.

Mark joined the Governing Body in 2018. He is an Old Wellingtonian and a former Wellington College parent.
Graduating from Bristol University in 1985, he was called to the Bar in 1986. He was appointed a Recorder of the Crown Court in 2004, Queen’s Counsel in 2006, and as a Circuit Judge in 2023. Mark’s practice encompassed Crime, Financial Crime, Professional Discipline, Sport and Reputation Management.
He is a trustee of the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation and the Hazelhurst Trust. He is Vice Chair of the ECB’s Cricket Discipline Commission, and Chair of the MCC’s Disciplinary Panel.
Mark chairs the Social Responsibility & Community Committee and is a member of the Nominations Committee.

Ginny is a fully qualified teacher of some 30 years standing.
Ginny is an experienced Headteacher and holds the National Professional Qualification in Headship. She led St Crispin’s School in Wokingham www.crispins.co.uk which is a large mixed comprehensive secondary school for ten years. Her leadership was rated as outstanding and is described by OFSTED as providing “… absolute clarity on the school’s focus for improvement and has created the conditions for all staff to feel included in driving standards forward”.
Currently Ginny is CEO of The Circle Trust www.thecircletrust.co.uk which is a Multi-Academy Trust currently of nine schools, nearly ten (and growing!) Schools span from Infant Schools with nursery provision to Secondary Schools with Sixth Forms and include over 4,000 pupils and 500+ employees. The Circle Trust also holds responsibility for separate Special Educational Needs Units for pupils with EHCPs specifically for the needs of ASD and total communication.
She also serves as a Trustee for AQA the country’s largest exam board.
Since 2022 she has been a Lead OFSTED Inspector.
In 2024 Ginny was given an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Reading for her work in Education.

Helen joined the Governing Body in 2017. She attended Harrogate Ladies College and Stockton Sixth Form before going on to study Natural Sciences and Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University. Helen started her career with Mars where she spent 19 years, culminating in her role as European Marketing Director, leading category strategy development across Europe. She joined Lloyds TSB in 2003 as Director of Group Marketing responsible for the group brand portfolio and marketing and the retail customer experience. She then spent five years as Chief Marketing and Product Officer at Yell Group UK driving the transformation of the business from a print publisher to a digital marketing services organisation for SMEs. Helen has additionally served as a non-executive director on the main board of the Department of Work and Pensions and worked for the Cabinet office. She also sits on the Henley Business School Strategic Advisory Board. Since stepping down from Yell Plc, Helen has taken a number of Non-Executive roles. She is Senior Independent Director at Kin and Carta Plc and Reach Plc and is a NED and Remuneration Committee Chair at Skipton Building Society and IG Group PLC.
Helen is a former Wellington College parent. Helen chairs the International Board and is a member of the Business & Finance Committee.

Tom Strathclyde joined the Governing Body in 2011 and is an Old Wellingtonian (OW). He entered the House of Lords in 1986. In 1988 he became a Government Whip and was promoted to Minister for Tourism in 1989, and then to Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries at the Scottish Office between 1990 and 1992. After the 1992 General Election he moved to the Department for the Environment, and then became Minister for State for Small Firms and Consumer Affairs at the Department of Trade and Industry.
In 1994, John Major made him Government Chief Whip in the House of Lords. He continued as Chief Whip into Opposition in 1997 – joining the Shadow Cabinet – until his appointment as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords in 1998 (a position he retained until the formation of the Coalition Government in May 2010). He was appointed Leader of the House of Lords and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster on 12th May 2010 and was Leader of the Conservative Party in the House of Lords until January 2013. He has been a Privy Counsellor since 1995.

Chris joined the Governing Body in 2021 and became Chair of the Wellington College Prep Committee in January 2023. He is an OW and has an MA in Military Studies.
Chris spent 39 years in the Army. As a young officer, he spent time in Germany, Northern Ireland, Botswana and Norway. After Staff College and a tour in the MOD, he took command of 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers when they deployed to Bosnia and then Kosovo. On promotion, he commanded 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault) during the Second Gulf War. He later commanded 8 Force Engineer Brigade for 2 years which included 6 months in Afghanistan in 2009. After time back in the MOD, he was promoted in 2013 to command the Army Recruiting and Training Division. He joined the Army Board in 2016 and was the Army’s Director of Capability from then until Summer 2019. He was promoted to Lieutenant General and became Deputy Chief of the General Staff in August 2019. He left the Army on completion of that tour in December 2022.
Beyond Wellington, Chris is now a Senior Advisor to PA Consulting Group and a NED for a Private Equity backed broadband provider.
Chris was appointed an MBE in 2000, OBE in 2003, CBE in 2010 and KBE in 2021. He was also appointed a Commander of the US Legion of Merit in 2022. He is married and has two daughters.
