As the Lent term drew to a close, Wellington College was treated to two evenings of delightful music. From classical compositions to soulful jazz renditions, these events showcased the incredible talent and unwavering dedication of our musicians, while also supporting meaningful causes close to our hearts.

On Friday, March 8th, the G.W Annenberg was filled with the stirring notes of the Concerto Concert. The evening began with masterful performances of Scriabin’s Piano Concerto in F# minor by Josh Xu and Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.2 in G minor by Ashwyn Rupasinha. These breathtaking pieces were complemented by a diverse array of music from Camerata, ROAR, The Wellington College Symphony Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, and the captivating harmonies of the Wellingtones. It was a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to Mrs Henwood, whose final performance conducting Camerata marked the end of an era.

A week later, on Friday, March 15th, the G.W.A was once again buzzing with excitement as the Minibus Concert took centre stage. This event, held in support of the Crowthorne Community Minibus, saw the convergence of musical talent and philanthropy. Since 1997, Wellington College has supported this noble cause through the concert, which provides transport for elderly and disabled residents of Crowthorne. The concert, featuring performances by the Wellington College Big Band, Concert Band, and the Riverdale Jazz Ensemble from New York, was a testament to the power of music in uniting communities and driving positive change. From the haunting melodies of “Skyfall” to the infectious rhythms of “Sing Sing Sing”, the evening was filled with laid-back jazz tunes that had the audience tapping their feet and swaying along.
