Congratulations to Wellingtonians Martha C and Sienna R for their outstanding achievements in the swimming pool throughout 2024, which earned them invitations to compete in this December’s Winter Nationals at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. Both swimmers qualified for two events: Martha for the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, and Sienna for the 100m and 200m Butterfly.
Both girls started racing when they were only seven years old, and since then their dedication and talent have seen them rise through the national ranks in Breaststroke, Freestyle and Butterfly. They train nine times a week – Martha with Rushmoor Royals, Sienna at Wycombe District – before school every morning and in the evenings as well, with each session lasting a gruelling two hours. What is remarkable is how they manage to keep up with their studies and play such a full role in Wellington at the same time: Sienna is an Academic Scholar and a key member of the Debating team, while Martha is heavily involved in the Economics Society and is currently working towards her Grade 7 LAMDA award.
We are proud of them both and wish them the best of luck for their ongoing careers and their fierce, realistic ambition to represent GB internationally.
