The HM

Mike Cawdron joined Wellington as a teacher of Mathematics in 2015 having spent eleven years at Haileybury College in Hertfordshire, where he was Master in charge of Cricket and Rackets. Before joining the teaching profession, Mike enjoyed thirteen years as a professional cricketer at both Gloucestershire CCC and Northamptonshire CCC. Mike’s experience in the high-pressure environment of professional sport, both as a player and captain of young England and a county team, has given him a unique understanding of the nature of group dynamics, man-management and motivational skills. Mike’s aim for the House is to draw upon these skills to foster a positive and productive environment in the Lynedoch, where students are united in their commitment to improving both themselves and their community. Mike is supported by his wonderful family: his wife, Nina, and two daughters, Matilda and Hettie, are as excited to be part of the Lynedoch community as Mike is proud to be its Housemaster.

The House

The Lynedoch benefits hugely from its unique location and layout; all on one floor, spanning the entire length of the west wing of the main College buildings, it is an excellent environment for the development of relations between each of the year groups. The layout gives rise to a coherent and friendly atmosphere in the House. As an in-College House, all boys in the Lynedoch enjoy proximity to the majority of the main College facilities.

The Third Form enjoy living in three spacious “mini dormitories”: each housing three boys. These have been creatively designed to aid interaction whilst maintaining privacy. The third form boys are reallocated areas within these rooms over the course of their first year to get to know each other well. An Upper Sixth prefect also lives close by in his own room to assist them in making a successful transition from prep school.

From their second year at Wellington onwards, all boys get their own spacious, single room. The central part of the house is an open-plan Common Room housing TV facilities, a computer suite and a comfortable sofa area for socialising and reading the daily papers.
