The trip report for the British Schoolgirls’ Ski Races was slightly delayed, adding to the anticipation as organisers meticulously finalised the race results. And for the Wellington A team, comprised of Emily (Ap), Lucy (O), and Kitty (Hn), the wait was absolutely worth it.
Their performance was nothing short of spectacular. Securing 2nd place in Giant Slalom and clinching 1st place in Slalom, the A team once again asserted dominance, earning Wellington the prestigious Lilywhite Trophy for the best overall school — an achievement not seen since 2008.
But it wasn’t just team success; individual accolades shone as well. Emily (Ap) soared to victory, claiming top honours in the U18 Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Overall categories. Meanwhile, Kitty (Hn) showcased her prowess with a commendable 3rd place finish in the U14 Slalom, and Georgia (O) impressed with a 3rd place finish in the U18 non-registered Slalom and overall.
The camaraderie and triumph on the slopes made for an unforgettable week, with memories that extended far beyond the competition itself.
For Emily (Ap), the journey continued beyond the British Schoolgirls’ Ski Races. Over half term, she seized the opportunity to challenge herself further at the adult International FIS Races during the 2024 English Alpine Championships in Bormio, Italy.
Her determination paid off with personal bests in Giant Slalom and Slalom, but it was in the Super G where she truly left her mark. Not only did Emily achieve a personal best, but she also secured her highest FIS finish to date — an impressive 8th place. And in a remarkable feat, she clinched the title of 2024 English National Women’s U18 Super G Champion, solidifying her status as a rising star in the skiing world.
