On Sunday 17th March, Fin Baxter (L6th, Hl) made his debut for England U18, a phenomenal achievement as an U17, in a hard fought 36-21 victory over Scotland U18 at Billingham RFC.

Fin has been a key part of Wellington’s 1st XV squad – a squad that had a very successful season, rounded off in style with a win over Epsom College in the national U18 Champions Trophy. Fin was consistently putting on dazzling displays in a Wellington shirt and has emerged as one of the most able school boys in the country. Following the conclusion of the school XV-a-side season, Fin was selected for the Harlequins U18 side for their Premiership U18 campaign.

Fin has been involved with the Harlequins academy since he was 13 and is one of seven current Wellington College students involved in the elite level of the academy (EPDG) with another ten younger pupils involved in the DPP programme where Fin began his academy rugby. Fin was a key player in the Harlequins U18 side that had a super season and ended up finishing 5th after a win over Sale at academies finals day; his performances for school and club eventually earned Fin a call up to the U18 squad for the fixture vs Scotland this weekend.

Dan Richards, Master in Charge of Rugby, commented: “To be playing rugby at this level whilst still in his Lower Sixth year is truly exceptional, but it is no accident: Fin is a truly dedicated young man with a phenomenal work ethic and the desire to improve each time he trains or plays. Fin takes his responsibilities as a leader incredibly seriously, conducting himself with integrity in all he does and showing determination and humility, both on the pitch and in the classroom. Fin is an excellent ambassador for the school and a superb role model to the younger members of the community. As for the game against Scotland itself, Fin played a key part in a squad victory, including some excellent carrying, devastating tackling and dominant scrummaging. This will undoubtedly be the first of many times that Fin will get to wear the hallowed red rose as he continues to work hard and improve”.
