Congratulations to the Year 11 pupils at Wellington College on their outstanding GCSE results, their reward for many months of hard work.
James Dahl, the Master of Wellington is delighted:
“I am hugely proud of our GCSE cohort who have achieved a stellar set of results.
23 pupils with straight 9s and 22 with all-but-one straight 9s.
47.7% of all the grades awarded were 9s and 74.3% of all grades were 9s or 8s.
Well done to them all. What a year group they are. They have absolutely smashed it!”
Mr Benjamin Evans, the Deputy Head Academic, was equally pleased, and commented
“We are delighted with the performance of our Fifth Form Wellingtonians, with almost half (48%) of all grades achieved at the highest level (grade 9). Over 20% of pupils scored at least nine grade 9s, and there are success stories throughout the subject range. There are also performances to be proud of that will not make overall headlines and we acknowledge and celebrate these pupils too. The Wellington experience for most is a full five years and the first two years of this cohort’s experience was interrupted by two significant periods of lockdown. The fact that effective learning was so clearly maintained during this time is of great credit to the pupils, their parents, and their teachers. We now look forward to the Sixth Form, with a fine academic grounding from which to proceed.”
The vast majority of the 200 strong cohort took eleven subjects, as well as the Higher Project Qualification, so this performance should give them plenty of confidence for their Sixth Form years, where they will have the choice of sitting either A-levels or the International Baccalaureate. Well done one and all!
