Wellington College’s eagerly anticipated House Singing Competition made a triumphant return, transforming the G.W. Annenberg into a kaleidoscope of sound, energy, and creativity. This year’s theme, MTV, challenged each house to channel the golden age of music television, delivering performances worthy of any prime-time music video countdown.
With the audience packed to the rafters and the atmosphere electric, the competition showcased the musical talent and collaborative spirit of Wellingtonians.
Congratulations to Hill House for their winning performance of Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles. Their dynamic energy and cohesive harmonies captivated both the audience and judges, securing them the top spot.
Honourable mentions go to runners-up Orange House and Stanley House. Orange House delivered a powerful rendition of Queen’s Somebody to Love, while Stanley House impressed with Beyoncé’s Halo, both earning well-deserved recognition.
Special awards were also presented to:
· Combermere House for Best A Cappella with their rendition of Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend.
· Lynedoch House for Best Arrangement of David Bowie’s Starman.
· Hardinge House for Best Visual Act accompanying Coldplay’s Viva la Vida.
· Beresford House for Best Solo in their performance of The Killers’ Human.
The 2025 House Singing Competition proved once again why this event is such a highlight of the Wellington calendar. From nostalgic nods to MTV’s glory days to inventive reinterpretations of iconic tracks, each house brought their A-game, making it an unforgettable evening for all.
