It’s a joy to share the heartwarming news from Lutucan Bata Elementary School in Sariaya Quezon, Philippines, after receiving support from the Wellington College Charity Tuck shop over the past two years.
Rodel, currently serving as the Blucher House Matron, nominated his former school to receive support from fund raised by the Wellington College Charity Tuck shop. In the first year, a total of 320 pupils received much needed school supplies. However, during Rodel’s communication with the school, it was discovered that the school still didn’t have access to clean drinking water, a problem he himself had experienced during his time there.
Motivated by this news the support continued and after the second year, the school was able to construct drinking water facilities and provide new chairs, desks, school supplies, and even a sound system. The newly established water facilities not only benefit the pupils but also serve the neighbouring communities.
Rodel shared his thoughts on the project, saying, “I have witnessed first-hand the unwavering dedication of the teachers and parents to provide a comfortable environment for the students, despite the lack of resources. Unfortunately, the limited budget hinders their ability to adequately support the necessary facilities. Being a former student myself, I felt a strong urge to contribute in any way possible, understanding that education is the key to success. By enhancing the school’s infrastructure, I firmly believe that the students will be motivated to study harder, especially with access to clean water, which fosters a positive atmosphere. During the summer break, I have plans to personally visit the school and witness the progress made through these projects.”
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the pupils and teachers of Lutucan Bata Elementary School for sharing these wonderful images that depict the positive change brought about by the support received. We also express our gratitude to the Wellington College parents who generously volunteer their time to run the Charity Tuck shop. Without your dedicated efforts, projects like this would not be possible.
