Huge congratulations to this year’s Wellington College GCSE students as they celebrate an outstanding set of results today. The most common grade received was a 9 with 38% of results coming back at the highest level, the best ever outcome for the College outside of the Covid-inflated years. Half of this talented year group of over 200 pupils scored an average grade of 8 or better, with the average grade across all pupils also being 8. Nearly two-thirds of grades awarded were 8 or 9 – broadly the equivalent of the old A* – proof, indeed, that a combination of intellectual curiosity and sheer hard work is a winning formula. Other headlines of note include the 18 pupils – almost 10% of the year group – who secured at least ten 9s and our Fourth Form ‘early takers’ who served notice that they, too, will be a force to be reckoned with having secured 90% of their grades at 9.

James Dahl, the Master of Wellington, had this to say: “Quite simply, these are an amazing set of results and we are so proud of our 2024 GCSE cohort. With almost 20% of the year group achieving nine 9s or better and 100 students securing an average GCSE score of 8 or higher, we could not have asked for more from this wonderful group of Wellingtonians. Like so many young people their age, it has not been a smooth journey over the past five years with a term of online learning in both Year 7 and Year 8 – such a formative time in any young person’s academic development. The resilience, character and intellectual curiosity they have shown in the years post-pandemic have been exemplary and they fully deserve these outstanding outcomes. We can’t wait to see what they are going to achieve in the Sixth Form!”

Well done to them all.
