Wellington College is excited to announce a new partnership with Bath Rugby, as part of its commitment to supporting pupils engaged in elite-level sports. This collaboration aligns with Wellington’s aim to offer students the highest level of performance sports training and development.

Wellington College supports pupils involved in several club academies and development programmes, including Bath Rugby and Harlequins. Following the RFU’s recent re-establishment of geographical boundaries for school and club connections, the College has forged a new relationship with Bath Rugby. Starting in the winter of 2024, part of Bath Rugby’s U15 Academy training programme will be based at Wellington College, providing pupils with access to a high-performance rugby programme right on campus, eliminating the need for extensive weekly travel.

Craig Lilley, Bath Rugby Academy Manager, commented:
“Bath Rugby are delighted to work with Wellington College in order to provide a venue and exceptional facilities for part of our U15 Academy training programme and we look forward to further growing the relationship with Wellington, as a school with such a rich history of playing rugby, in the future.”

Adrian Jarvis, Head of Rugby at Wellington College, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Bath Rugby to Wellington College and provide a home for part of their U15 training programme. Our facilities, combined with Bath Rugby’s commitment to developing young talent, create an exciting opportunity to foster growth in the sport. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Bath Rugby and inspiring the next generation of rugby talent.”

Earlier this year, Wellington College celebrated the signing of then Upper Sixth pupil Tyler Offiah to Bath Rugby Club as a senior academy athlete. After graduating from Wellington, Tyler made his debut for Bath in early September and is one of seven Old Wellingtonians who have gone on to accept professional contracts over the past five years. Others include Fin Baxter (Harlequins and England), Cassius Cleaves (Harlequins), Rory Taylor (Gloucester), Monty Bradbury (London Irish, Gloucester, retired), Will Hobson (Harlequins) and Lucas Brooke (London Irish). Our leavers’ sporting successes are a testament to the College’s strong rugby programme, and we hope to celebrate more professional rugby success stories in the near future.

This partnership is part of Wellington College’s wider Performance Sports Programme, which is dedicated to nurturing pupils who aspire to excel at the highest levels of sport. With over 20 sports offered, the College ensures that all pupils have opportunities to identify a sport they are passionate about, while developing valuable life skills. For those aiming for elite performance, Wellington’s priority sports, including Rugby, provide access to high-quality coaching, a robust strength and conditioning programme, and the Aspirational Athlete Programme, covering areas such as sports psychology and nutrition.

Wellington College is committed to supporting all students, whether they aim to pursue sport for life or have ambitions to compete at the highest level. Through challenging fixtures, success in national competitions, and UK and overseas tours, pupils are given every opportunity to grow as athletes. The new relationship with Bath Rugby will further enhance the College’s ability to provide pupils with the support they need to achieve their sporting goals.
