Basketball at Wellington College is thriving, with the sport reaching new heights thanks to the dedication of players and coaches alike. Recent training camps in Ohio and Valencia have bolstered the team’s skills, helping them perform against formidable competition. This progress was on display during Saturday’s basketball tournament, which brought together teams from Eton, Charterhouse, Cheltenham, Harrow, RHS Ipswich, Stowe, and Winchester.
After a last-minute schedule change, Wellington was placed in Group A, facing Charterhouse, RHS Ipswich, and Stowe. Their first game against Charterhouse ended in a narrow overtime loss. However, Wellington quickly regrouped, delivering commanding victories against Stowe (22-7) and RHS Ipswich (35-9). These wins secured their spot in the semi-finals, where they faced Group B winners, Harrow.
In a thrilling semi-final, Wellington emerged victorious, setting up a much-anticipated rematch with Charterhouse in the final.
The final was an intense and closely contested game, showcasing the skill and grit of both teams. In the closest match of the tournament that didn’t go to overtime, Wellington narrowly fell to Charterhouse, 15-14. This marked Charterhouse’s third consecutive tournament victory—many congratulations to them for their continued success.
