With five candidates scoring a perfect 45 points, a further nine scoring 44 points and nearly 40% of the cohort achieving scores of 40 or more – the equivalent of A*A*A*A* at A-Level – Wellington College’s IB students have good reason to celebrate their outstanding achievements.

The IB Diploma, globally recognised by universities as a real test of academic rigour, asks students to study a combination of six subjects as well as completing an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge module and a Creativity, Activity, and Service programme. 117 Wellingtonians, nearly half the cohort, enrolled in this year’s Diploma, achieving a mean average score of 38 points: that they have done so while contributing so handsomely to the cultural, sporting and artistic life of the school marks them out as a remarkable group of young adults.

The Master of Wellington College, James Dahl, congratulated the students, going on to say:

“We could not be prouder of this outstanding group of 117 Wellingtonians – our second largest IB cohort ever – who chose the breadth and rigour of the IB Diploma this year. There are so many individual stories of success but it is, perhaps, the way in which they worked together and raised each other up as a year group over the past six terms which makes me most pleased. It is no mean feat to balance the demands of the IB Diploma with the busyness of everything else on offer at Wellington, and this group have done it brilliantly. We wish them every success and happiness for their lives beyond the College.”

Congratulations to another impressive class of Wellingtotians, with a special mention to Bexie B, Sunay P, Anna R, Ada W, and Josh X for their perfect scores.
