A small delegation of Academic Scholars represented Wellington College at the Youth Forum Switzerland 2025 New Horizons, hosted at the International School of Zug & Luzern. This prestigious event serves as a platform for today’s leading global change-makers to address pressing issues while fostering connections with the visionary leaders of tomorrow, inspiring young minds to shape a better, shared future.

Throughout the forum, our students had the opportunity to engage with a wide range of inspiring and passionate changemakers, as well as like-minded peers. Particular highlights included Beyond the Arrow of Time with Dr Sieroka and Dr Keller, which pushed the boundaries of our understanding of time, space, and reality, sparking deep philosophical and scientific debates. A moving conversation with Holocaust survivor Egon Holländer provided a powerful reminder of history’s lessons and the resilience of the human spirit. Beyond the Tipping Point inspired hope, as a parliamentarian and a young activist explored how renewable technology, sustainable urban planning, and grassroots activism can still shape a climate-resilient future. Jaideep Bansal’s compelling talk showcased his award-winning social enterprise, demonstrating how sustainable development can transform even the most remote communities in India. Meanwhile, a session on Next-Generation Pharmaceutical Solutions shed light on the complex process of bringing life-saving drugs to market. Together, these highlights fuelled curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for innovation among students.

In addition to the talks and panel discussions, students participated in a series of Impact Labs, where they grappled with challenging ideas in small groups under the expert guidance of speakers. The image shows our students learning about ethical investing with the inventors of Equity: The Board Game. Another session, led by young entrepreneurs, focused on how to build a unique brand identity and craft a compelling marketing message.

Our students embraced the opportunity to step out of their comfort zones, listening thoughtfully and adding their own insightful contributions. Each evening, there was an Apéro, where all guests mingled, giving students a further opportunity to engage with speakers and other attendees in a more intimate setting.

After two busy days, our group headed to the mountains for a day of ‘R&R’ on the glacier at Mount Titlis, followed by sightseeing in Lucerne, with its stunning medieval architecture set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lake Lucerne.

We are hugely grateful to our hosts at ISZL and proud of our students, who were wonderful ambassadors for the College.
