String players from across the county entered the Berkshire Young Musician of the Year (Strings) competition back in December 2016. Wellington College entered six talented string players who all made it through to round two. From this, a small number of players were selected to play in the final which was held in the Guildhall, Windsor.

College violinists Mira Steenbrugge (Lower Sixth, Orange) and William Campbell (Fifth Form, Talbot) were both selected and represented Wellington in the 13-15 and 16-18 year old categories respectively.

The final was a very exciting occasion indeed, with the young performers displaying maturity in performance beyond their years. After a long afternoon and final adjudication by a panel of judges, William was announced as not only the winner of his age group, but also the overall winner of Berkshire Young Musician of The Year. It was a stunning performance and thoroughly well deserved. It should also be mentioned that both Mira and William were beautifully accompanied by Marco Fatichenti.

His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex presented William with his trophy and a violin bow worth £1500 in the Waterloo Chamber, Windsor Castle on Friday 17th March.
