Wellington’s Third Form Scholars and Exhibitioners headed off to Oxford at the beginning of March for a day of academic extension. They started by gaining an insight into the life of an Oxonian by visiting Corpus Christi College for a tour of the college and gardens before a talk by the outreach officer about university life at Oxford. They were then treated to a whirlwind tour of some of the key sights of the city by Oxford alumnae Miss Spencer and Mrs Patterson, including the Examination Schools, Botanical Gardens, the Bodleian Library, Sheldonian, Radcliffe Camera and Bridge of Sighs.
To round the day off they united to defeat the Fourth Samurai, take on the Wild West and rescue Blackbeard’s treasure in a series of intellectual puzzles and challenges. I’m glad to report that not only did all the groups ‘survive’ and escape – but returned to Wellington excited about the possibility of studying at Oxford or Cambridge.
